Youth ‘attempts suicide after killing’ wife in Bogra
Bogra: A young man has tried to kill himself allegedly after slaughtering newlywed wife at Chak Farid Pramanikpara of the district town, reports UNB.
Police recovered the body of Fatema Khatun, 22, wife of Sujon Pramanik, 28, from their bedroom on Wednesday morning and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Inspector (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station Aslam Ali said Sujon married Fatema barely a month ago.
The newlywed couple went to bed after having their dinner on Tuesday night. “We suspected that Sujon slaughtered Fatema with a sharp weapon and tried to slit his throat,” the police officer said. He also said they took Sujon to the hospital under their custody.
BCL leader held for ‘rape, suicide provocation’
Netrakona: Police arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from Parla bus stand on Tuesday night on charge of raping a teenage girl and provoking her to commit suicide, reports UNB.
Koushik Sarker Apu, 20, agricultural affairs deputy secretary of district unit BCL, is the prime accused in the rape case, said Inspector Nur e Alam, investigation officer of the case. Earlier on Monday, police arrested another accused Mamun Mia, 25, son of Gafur Mia of Thakurkona village under Sadar upazila, from Birishiri area in Durgapur upazila.
The drive is going on to arrest another accused Sultan, 22, son of late Chan Mia of the same village, the IO added.
A petition was also filed with the district court to exhume the body of the girl for fresh autopsy to know whether she was raped, he also said.
According to the case statement, a teenage girl allegedly committed suicide a day after being raped at Thakurkona village under Sadar upazila on September 3. Victim’s mother Alpana Akter filed a case for rape and provoking her daughter to commit suicide accusing three people.
Man held with 80,000 pieces of banned injections

Customs intelligence officials arrested a Bangladeshi national along with 80,000 pieces of banned Indian injections from Benapole customs checkpost on Tuesday night.
The arrestee was identified as Hossain Mintu, 45, hailing from Shariatpur district.
Tipped off, a team of customs intelligence conducted a drive at the Custom checkpost and arrested Hossain Mintu and recovered the animal injections after searching his bag, said Abdus Sadek, Deputy Commissioner of Benapole Custom intelligence. A case was filed.
Phensidyl, hemp seized

Police in a drive recovered 490 bottles of phensidyl syrup, two kg hemp and different types of oil from Bijoynagar in sadar upazila on early Tuesday.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive at a jackfruit orchard at Bijoynagar around 12 am, said M Asad, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station.
During the drive, police recovered the contraband drugs and oil worth Tk 15 lakh from a pickup van, said the SI adding the driver and the helper of the van fled scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers. A case was filed with Jessore Sadar Police Station in this connection.
Trader dies from snakebite
Chanpur: A trader died from snakebite at Chhataki Bazar in Matlab (South) upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Family sources said a venomous snake bit Tipu Sultan Bepari, 28, son of Siraj Bepari, a resident of Sugandhi village, when he was returning home from his shop around 9 pm on Tuesday. Later, locals took him to Chandpur General Hospital where doctors referred him to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
