DU Journalism dept alumni association’s AGM Saturday
The annual general meeting (AGM) of Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association' (DUMCJAA) will be held on Saturday.
The meeting will start at 4 pm at the Alumni Floor of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university, said a press release.
DU former Vice-chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, chief information commissioner Prof Golam Rahman, chief adviser of DUMCJAA Prof Sakhawat Ali Khan, among others, will present at the function. President of DUMCJAA Abu Alam Md Shahid Khan will chair the meeting and its general secretary Prof Mofizur Rahman will conduct the programme.
German expert meets DU VC
Karsten Bechtel, a bio-energy expert of Germany called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman at the latter's office of the university on Tuesday.
Director of the Institute of Energy of DU Prof. Dr Saiful Huque and Assistant Professor Dr. SM Nasif Shams were present on this occasion, said a press release.
During the meeting they discussed the need for development of renewable energy sector in Bangladesh. They also discussed the possibilities of setting up bio-energy testing lab at the Institute of Energy of DU with the financial assistance and technological support from Germany.
‘EDU working to produce quality graduates’
East Delta University (EDU), Chittagong Founding Vice-chairman Sayeed Al Noman said the university has been working to produce good quality students and research coming out of the stereotyped education system.
He was addressing at a gathering titled ‘Corporate Odyssey’ at permanent campus of the university recently. High officials of different corporate houses and universities in Dhaka, Chittagong and Malaysia attended the programme.
Sayeed Al Noman, in his speech, said long-term plans have been chalked out to establish standard education system, international teaching method, create creative mentality and increase the research activities for expansion of higher education in Chittagong.
The students are not being taught only for employment in the university. There is huge scope of being entrepreneur, he added.
International Islamic University, Malaysia Prof Dr Abdul Quddus said that his university has started joint education activities with the EDU as it ensured qualitative education. EDU Director Planning and Development Shafayet Chowdhury conducted the programme while Heidelberg Cement Head of Human Resource Md Alamgir, Grameen Phone Cluster Head Shaon Azad, Infinity Group Chairman Imtiaz Alam and EDU Treasurer Prof Shams-Ud-Doha were present at the programme among others.
The participants also said EDU students working at their organisations are going forward with challenge and confidence to achieve the success.
Seminar on ‘conducting e-research’ held at IU
An international seminar on ‘Research methodology and conducting e-research’ was held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, yesterday.
The seminar was organised by the university’s Institute of Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at Bir Shresto Hamidur Rahman auditorium around 10am.
The university vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari was present as chief guest while Professor Dr K M Abdus Sobhan director of IQAC chaired the seminar.
IU Pro-vice-chancellor Professor Dr. M Shahinoor Rahman and Its treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha were present here as the special guest while Professor Shahzad Uddin director of Essex, University in UK as the resource person.
Automation system inaugurated for
CU admission test
Automation system of Chiattgong University’s first year admission test process was inaugurated yesterday.
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury formally inaugurated the automation system as chief guest. Pro VC Professor Dr Shirin Akhter, acting registrar Prof Dr Kamrul Huda and deans of different faculties were present.
VC Iftekhar Uddin said, “The process of admission through the automation system will reduce the sufferings to the students. As well as four unit tests, the students will also be able to reduce their financial expenditure.”
Beside, the first year admission test will be taken from four units such as science, business studies, humanitarian and combined unit by reducing from 10 units in the year 2017-18 session. The admission test application process began from Tuesday at 2pm. This will continue till October 4 at 12pm. The applicants can be deposited their fee in the concerned bank till October 5. The admission test will be held from Oct 26 to 29. The details can be found on the university website at www.cu.ac.bd.
Debate competition begins at RU
RAJSHAHI: A three-day TIB-Gold Bangladesh third national debate competition began at Rajshahi University (RU) on Tuesday.
Group of Liberal Debaters Bangladesh (Gold Bangladesh) arranged the competition in association with Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
A total of 96 debaters from 32 universities in the country are taking part in the event formally opened by RU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Abdus Sobhan.
The formal opening was followed by a colourful rally that paraded different roads of the campus.
