Winning yet another prestigious award as the best actress in the 3rd edition of Indian Film Festival Caleidoscope 2017 is surely another feather in the cap of audience-admired Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan. Her award came for her brilliant role in the Indian Bengali film ‘Bishorjon’ directed by eminent filmmaker Kaushik Ganguly.
Beginning on September 8, the three-day festival concluded on September 11 in Boston, Massachusetts of the United States of America. The names of the winner were announced on the closing day of the festival. ‘Bishorjon’ won the best film award at the festival. Jaya Ahsan received the best actress award in the critic’s category at International Bengali Film Award for the same film.
Bishorjon is a love story starring Abir Chatterjee, Joya Ahsan and Kaushik Ganguly in the lead roles. It has been years since the partition of India and Bangladesh. Rivers like Ichhamati flow down the border between the two lands. ‘Bishorjon’ is the story of love between Bangladesh and West Bengal. Pawdda is a young Hindu widow who lives in a dilapidated house. For family, all she has is her paralysed father-in-law whom she cannot abandon till death befalls him. Life goes by awaiting it.
To note, produced by Opera Productions, Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Bishorjon’ bagged the Best Bengali Film award at the 64th National Film Awards 2017. l
