The Republic of Korea has pledged humanitarian aid of USD 200,000 for emergency relief operation for flood-hit people across Bangladesh, says a press release.
In response to the recent flooding, on behalf of Korean government, Ahn Seong-doo, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh has announced that the donation will be given through International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS).
This year’s monsoon season has been exceedingly devastating due to intense flooding affecting about 7.4 million people of Bangladesh. The Korean government’s fund will be used to supplement IFRC and BDRCS assistance focused on health, shelter, water, sanitation, food and livelihoods.
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has been supporting IFRC in the field of disaster risk management since 2015 under project titled ‘Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction Project: Enhanced Community Resilience to Floods in Bangladesh’ with a budget of USD 1,000,000. Its main objective is to support community resilience in reducing disaster and climate change risks in both Sirajganj and Pabna.
