FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman and Manon Reja Neer of Bangladesh earned the distinction of winning four gold and two silver medals in the 2nd Western Asia Youth Chess Championship 2017 which was concluded at Waskaduwa in Sri Lanka on Sunday. FM Fahad earned seven points out of nine games and became champions in Under-14 age group of standard chess.
FM Fahad finished unbeaten and overall he became second in all groups. Neer earned 6 points out of 9 games and clinched gold medal in Open Under-8 Group of Standard Chess. In last round FM Fahad drew with Chandreyee Hajra of India and Neer drew with Upananda Sasmitha of Sri Lanka. Blitz chess event was held on the same day in afternoon. FM Fahad got gold medal in the Blitz Chess of Open Under-14 event and Neer got gold medal of Blitz Chess in Open Under-8 Group. FM Fahad and Neer both earned 6 points each in the Blitz chess in their respective group.
Earlier FM Fahad and Neer both earned also silver medals in Rapid chess which was held on September 5. A total of 187 players from 7 Asian countries participated in the 2nd Western Asia Youth Chess.
