A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced man to seven years imprisonment and in the same verdict the court also gave him two months’ imprisonment and fined Tk. 5, 000 in Chittagong in a case filed for smuggling drugs.
The court of senior special session judge Md Shah Nur handed down the verdict.
The court also fined the convict Tk 5, 000, in default to suffer two months more in jail. The convicted is now custody.
The convicted was identified as Lukman Hakim, 35, son of Gura Mia, hailing from Ranggunia Upazila in Chittagong.
According to court sources, last year police arrested him after riding his house along with 10,000 pieces of yaba tablet.
Later, in this connection Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) officer Md Idrahim Khan filed a case with Katuali Police Station.
Metropolitan PP Advocate Fakhruddin Choudhury said, “The judgment convicted him under section 19(1) Table 3 (kha) of the Narcotics Control Act, 1990, and sentenced him for seven year imprisonment.”
