Some 2,873 people were killed and 6,500 people were injured in road accidents in the first eight months of 2017, reports UNB.
The National Committee to protect river, road and railways revealed the survey on Monday.
The study was published based on the information gathered from monitoring reports of accidents that occurred on different roads, highways and regional routes that appeared in 22 national newspapers, 10 regional newspapers, eight online news portals and news agencies
According to the survey, the National Committee to protect river, road and railways pointed out seven reasons for the road crashes. These are-reckless driving, violating rules while overloading and overtaking, uninterrupted driving for long, violating traffic rules, vulnerable condition of roads, lacking of laws in stopping plying of unfit vehicles and recruiting unskilled driver. The survey reveals that the number of fatalities has been witnessing a downward trend since June, dropping below 300 in a month for the first time in July, to 297, before decreasing further in August, to 279.
