CHITTAGONG: Chittagong mayor AJM Nasir Uddin yesterday said all illegal structures erected in 57 canals would be evicted under the direct supervision of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), reports BSS.
“There is no scope of meanness. None of us but this city is permanent and we want to present a planned and livable city for all”, the mayor said this at a press conference at his Andarkilla residence.
Nasir convened the press conference after the circular issued from Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in order to free the canals from illegal occupations and to ensure strong coordination between CCC and other public utility service organizations.
The mayor said it is not possible to give a timeframe to evict the structures on the canals. He added that the sorrow of Chittagong Chaktai canal and Moheshkhal would be given priority in this regard.
He said that public utility service organizations should take clearance from CCC before starting any project for addressing the problems of nagging water stagnation and public sufferings. The mayor however regretted that in many cases there is absence of proper coordination among public utility service organizations in launching development projects in the city.
Nasir said that there is distinct direction from the PMO for strong coordination in implementing the mega project undertaken by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA).
