Paying tribute to recently-demised folk musician Kalika Prasad Bhattacharjee on his birthday today, team Bhuban Majhi has arranged an open screening of the film ‘Bhuban Majhi’ at the Bangladesh National Museum in the capital’s Shahbag. The acclaimed folk artist, Kalika Prasad, who composed and directed the music of the film ‘Bhuban Majhi’, died in a road accident near Gurap village in Hooghly district on March 7, four days after the release of the film this year.
Directed and produced by Fakhrul Arefeen Khan, the film saw its release March 3. Before its release, a premiere show of the film was held at the capital’s Star Cineplex, where Kalikaprasad along with the film’s cast and crew were present.
Based on the Liberation War of Bangladesh, the film ‘Bhuban Majhi’ stars Bangladesh’s Aparna Ghosh and Indian actor Parambrata Chatterjee in the lead roles. The other notable casts of the film include Mamunur Rashid, Sushuma Sarker, Nowshaba, Maznun Mizan and singer Waqeel.
‘Bhuban Majhi’ is an epic love story dares to face the historic crisis and the oppressors. It is a journey for truth and entity of a nation spanning through four decades. Situations arrive as a certain threat while characters move through a historical reenactment.
The canvas of this film holds the great liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971 but is not limited to it. It illustrates the lives and its challenges up to 2013 as it tries to portray the real freedom that grows in the spirit of the mankind and displays a great transformation of an individual through the time journey.
The story not only deals with the love and affection for humanity and cultural identity, but also looks through the historical turnover of a nation.
To note, Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya (1970 – Mar 7, 2017) was an Indian folk singer and researcher. He was born and raised in Silchar, Assam. He went on to study comparative literature at Jadavpur University. His musical inspiration was his uncle Ananta Bhattacharya. In 1999, he co-founded the band Dohar with the intent to revive the folk music tradition of Northern and Eastern Bengal. He also contributed music to a number of movies. His last movie was Bhuban Majhi (2017). He was associated with the popular Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, a renowned Bengali music reality show. His last concert was in the Baguihati Krishi Mela.
