China is concerned about the ongoing Rohingya crisis and hopes that the stakeholders will play proactive role to resolve the issue, said You Jianhua, director general of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Talking to The Independent in Beijing yesterday, he said a large number of Rohingyas have entered China also following the recent violence in the Rakhine State. "We are providing them with shelters on humanitarian ground and expect that the Myanmar government will take due step to bring back normalcy there.” China wants a peaceful solution to the issue as it is very important for regional stability, he added.
Jianhua said stability and peace are preconditions for ensuring development, and a quick solution to the Rohingya issue is required in this regard.
“In fact, the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ was launched by President Xi in a bid to promote economic development of all the countries that are included in the plan.”
“South Asian and South East Asian countries are integral part of this plan. So stability in countries such as Myanmar, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan is important for the success of this landmark vision.” Responding to a question, he said China never believes in interfering in the domestic affairs of other countries.
“But as we want stability in neighbouring countries, we hope that the stakeholders will work out a peaceful solution to the issue,” Jianhua added. Terming Bangladesh as a tested friend, he said that China is committed to making its ties with Bangladesh more solid and stronger.
“We are ready to provide all possible cooperation to Bangladesh for its development and already China has been engaged in a good number of mega projects there which would help to boost its economic growth”. On the issue of the latest stand-off with India, he said that China has always been a strong advocate of warm and healthy ties with India and in the recent BRICS Summit President Xi reaffirmed that policy.
“We believe in mutual benefit of all the countries under the Belt and Road Initiative and it has been devised in this manner,” he noted.
The Communist Party of China official mentioned that China is planning to enlarge the Silk Fund through which financial assistance will be provided to the countries included in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Another 100 billion RMB will be injected into the fund and China Development Bank will issue 240 billion RMB and China Exim Bank will issue 130 billion RMB as special loans for the development of the regional countries.
Quoting President Xi, he said the philosophy of BRICS is to build the silk road into a road of peace, prosperity, openness, innovation and civilisation.
“President Xi dreams to build a big family of peaceful co-existence through policy of ‘ no interfering with other countries’ internal affairs, no exporting social systems of development models, no repeating the old path of geopolitical game and no forcing upon others,” he explained.
