3 of a family drown in Chalan Beel
STAFF REPORTER, Sirajganj
Police recovered the bodies of a father and his two children from Chalan Beel in Nado-Syedpur area of Tarash upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Altaf Hossain, 40, a teacher of Karimgari Qaumi Madrasha, his
son Nafiul Islam, 6, and daughter Anita Khatun
alias Taniya, 8.
Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarash police station, said Altaf along with his two children Nafiul and Taniya went to the Chalan Beel on Monday afternoon for netting fish. But, they did not return home.
After a massive search, locals found their bodies floating on the water of Chalan Beel yesterday morning and informed the matter to the local police station. Police reached the spot and recovered the bodies.
They suspected that they might have been drowned in the Beel after their boat capsized in strong
current.
Son kills father in Mymensingh

A man was hacked to death by his son at village Borodangri in Iswarganj upazila yesterday.
The victim has been identified as Alam Uddin Fakir, 55, a farmer of Borodangri.
Quoting family and local sources, Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge of Iswarganj police station, said Alams son Monwar Hossain Fakir, 27, a drug addict, demanded Tk 3,000 from his father yesterday afternoon. As Alam refused to give him the money a heated altercation took place between them. At one stage, Monwar attacked his father with a machete, injuring him critically.
Alam died on the way to Iswarganj Upazila Health Complex, police sources said.
While fleeing the scene after the murder, locals chased Monwar and caught him. Later, he was handed over to police.
Police visited the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
