Shanto smashes ton for BCB HP team

Nazmul Hossain Shanto smashed a brilliant unbeaten century that mesmerized Nottinghamshire CCC 2nd XI to set up a six-wicket victory for Bangladesh in the second fixture of the eight-match one-day tour series at the Lady Bay Cricket Ground, West Bridgford on Friday.

The first match was ended with no result as the rains prevented further play after 37 overs of the Nottinghamshire innings. The visitors will play their third and last match in Nottingham against Northants CCC 2nd XI at Brixworth Cricket Club Ground today before traveling to Birmingham for the remaining matches of the tour.

The Nottinghamshire opted to bat first and mustered a fighting 294 for nine in 50 overs largely thanks to CR Marshall’s 98, after which Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) High Performance Team overhauled the target with nine balls to spare while they had six wickets in hands. Chasing the challenging target of 295 to win, BCB High Performance stumbled in the very second over when they lost opener Shadman Islam Anik cheaply.

But captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto attempted to tackle the initial batting collapse and built up a couple of successful partnerships with sheer composure. Shanto struck 70 runs for the second wicket with his fellow teammate Mehedi Hasan, who was trapped run out by T Keast for 36.
