Players’ transfer completed

Players and coaches of different teams on Sunday demanded more games and facilities as well as regular domestic tournaments for the development of the women’s cricket in Bangladesh.

They all pressed their demands to media while they appeared in the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) to attend the day-long players’ transfer for the Dhaka Premier Division Women’s Cricket League.

The league of the 20176-2018 season is scheduled to get underway on September 18 after being delayed for seven times due to the dearth of grounds and the then inclement weather condition. The proceedings of the transfer window were opened with Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity. Then Indira Road Krira Chakra, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) and Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) did their players’ registration.

Gradually the other teams including Rupali Bank Krira Parishad, Gulhsan Youth Club, Hillol Jubo Sangha (HJS), Kalabagan Krira Chakra (KKC) and Abahani Limited made their players transfer.

MSC coach Imtiaz Hossain Pilu said that they could not form strong squad for the league.

“We are not in a position to fight for the championship as some of our players went away from the team. But we’ve tried to form the team available players and have to play with them,” said Imtiaz Hossain Pilu.

“Actually none can show much interest in women’s cricket. As a result, the development in womens’ cricket is not being made up to the mark. Along with that, our women could not get to play more matches,” Pilu told The Independent.

BKSP coach Dolly Sarker and Indira Road Krira Chakra coach Abdul Mazid echoed the same sentiment regarding the women’s cricket in Bangladesh. But both Dolly and Mazid demanded that the board should give more focus on women’s cricket and ensure facilities for them.

Mazid said they have brought new seven players, three of them have come afresh with the existing eight players. They’re communicating with Nepalese players to play for the league if the deal is okay two will come by September 15.

Matches of the league will be held at the BKSP-3 and BKSP-4. Each team could rope in at least 15 local players along with four foreign players. But each team could field two foreign players.
