Shakib wants to stay away from Tests for six months

Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is reluctant to play Test cricket in the next six months following a hectic international schedule for the last one year.

Shakib himself applies to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for such leave from the longer version cricket.

BCB director and its operation committee chairman Akram Khan informed the media regarding the matter.

“Shakib applied to the BCB president to take leave from Test cricket for the next six months. He did it today (Sunday) though I have heard it verbally from others. But we are yet to receive any letter or application from him,” said Akram Khan.

“If such thing is happened we will take the decision what is good for the Bangladesh cricket,” Khan told media.

Last Saturday, a close-door meeting was held at the board president Nazmul Hassan’s residential house, where Shakib’s matter was presented beside the other important issues but some issues were remained unresolved. And thus, the board directors sat once again to settle the issues ahead of the Tigers’ upcoming away tour in South Africa.

If the matter of Shakib is true and the board is accepted the leave of the key player of the Bangladesh team, then the premier all-rounder will surely miss the forthcoming South African series along with the next Sri Lankan series which was slated to take place in between January and February. On the other hand, Khaled Mahmud Sujon will not join the Tigers as the team manager in the South Africa tour. He himself told this to media yesterday, stating that he informed the board regarding this matter.

“I’m not joining the team. I’ve informed it to the board. So, there is no change in the officials. It’ll be the same for the South Africa tour what were for the last Australia series,” Khaled Mahmud said.

It is learnt that the board extended their deal with the spin-bowling consultant Sunil Joshi. Prior to the home Test series against top-notch Australia, the BCB hired Indian former spin all-rounder as their spin bowling consultant for two-month. Now they expanded Joshi’s stint for the next six month. It is also learnt from the BCB insiders that Australian batting consultant Mark O’Neil could not join the BCB job.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal reached in Pakistan via Dubai to play the Independence Cup. The hard-hitting batsman will represent World XI against Pakistan Team.

The first fixture of the three-match T20 tournament will be kicked off in Lahore on September 12. The other matches will be played on September 13 and 15 respectively.

The tournament is being held with the aim of bringing international cricket back in Pakistan.

No international match is held in Pakistan after the militant attacked in Sri Lankan cricket team’s bus in 2009.
