Discussion on Bangabandhu held at JU
SAVAR: A discussion on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was held at the seminar room of Jahir Raihan auditorium of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday marking his 40th martyred anniversary.
JU authority organised the discussion while Minister of the Public Administration Ministry and General Secretary of ruling Awami League party Syed Ashraful Islam addressed the function as chief guest.
JU Pro Vice-Chancellor Abul Hossain delivered the welcome speech while former Vice-Chancellor of the university and incumbent member of Public Service Commission Shariff Enamul Kabir presented a key-note on Bangabandhu.
Minister Syed Ashraf said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman thought the process of voting system of the people the then East Pakistan while there were no voter rights.
The Minister said Bangabandhu inspired the young generation specially students to involve in all sector including, politics, culture and sports.
Presided over by JU VC Farzana Islam, former VC Alauddin, former BCL leader and AL central committee member AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, President of JU BCL Mahmudur Rahman Jani addressed the function among others.
AUB English dept holds graduation ceremony
The graduation ceremony of 26th batch of the Department of English, Asian University Bangladesh (AUB) was held at Ayesha auditorium of AUB on Monday, says a press release.
Abulhasan M Sadeq, vice chancellor of AUB, was the chief guest in the programme.
He emphasized on higher education and continuation of studies for the graduates. He encouraged the students to be devoted to the country and serve the nation.
The programme was presided over by Md Mohsin Miyan, associate professor and head, Department of English of AUB, while Registrar Mohiuddin Nurul Absar and Abdullah M Taher, director, student affairs, attended the programme as special guests.
ASM Shamem, assistant professor and advisor of English Association, and Anwar Parvez, lecturer and president of English Association, were present in the ceremony as guests of honour. Later, a cultural programme was held.
Seminar on exploring local culture held
RANGPUR:  A seminar on ‘Exploring Local Culture: Connecting Gender, Poverty and Disaster’ was held at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) yesterday.
The Department of Women and Gender Studies of the university organised the seminar at its auditorium.
Md Humayun Kabir, assistant professor and head of Women and Gender Studies department, was in chair.
Md Tanziul Islam Zibon, assistant professor and head of Political Science department of BRUR and Muhammad Anwar Hossain, lecturer of Sociology department of BRUR, were present at the seminar as special guests.
Students from England, Scotland, Ireland and Italy took part in the seminar and shared their experiences. The teachers and the students of the university, including Women and Gender Studies department, also took part in the seminar.
