Victims of trafficking get rehabilitation support

GAIBANDHA: A total of 19 trafficked victims of the district got assistance from an international organisation for their rehabilitation in society, reports BSS.
A simple function organised by Chhinnomul Mahila Samity (SMS) was held in its training room of the town on Monday afternoon under the Protecting Victims of Human Trafficking in Bangladesh project funded by Relief International Bangladesh.
The Deputy Commisisoenr (DC) M Abdus Samad formally handed over cows,
sewing machines and essential commodities to the 19 trafficked victims of the district
to help engage themselves in income generating activities.
He addressed the function as the chief guest while executive director of SMS Murshedur Rahman Khan was in the chair, and district Women Affairs Officer Habiba Khatun and district correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Sarker M Shahiduzzaman were present as special guests.
The function was also addressed, among others, by project coordinator ABM Masudunnabi, journalists Abu Jafor Sabu, and Harun-ur-Rashid Badal and trafficked victim Golam Mostafa.
The participants urged all to stand beside the trafficked victims with assistance so that they could be rehabilitated in society without economic hardship.
DC M Abdus Samad emphasized raising awareness among the common people of the country and launching a vigorous movement to prevent human trafficking.
The journalist community of the country could play a significant role in this regard through publishing positive, objective and constructive reports in their respective media, he also commented.
Project Coordinator ABM Masudunnabi said the project is being implemented in
the district from August of 2014 and it would continue till August of 2015 for rehabilitating 50 males who fell victims to human
trafficking.
