Man gets life term for killing wife

A court in Chapainawabganj yesterday sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) and also fined him Tk 20,000, in default to suffer RI for two more years for killing his wife.
Chapainawabganj district and Sessions Judge Md Enamul Bari announced the verdict.
The convicted person is Monirul Islam, 37, of Chaitanyapur village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
According to the prosecution story, Monirul had a quarrel with his wife Champa Begum, 30, on the night of March 1, 2011 after he demanded Tk 50,000 as dowry.
At one stage, Monirul killed her by tying  her sari around her neck. Champa’s mother Anarkoli Begum filed a murder case with Shibganj police station the next day implicating eight people including Monirul.
Investigating officer of the case SI Nur Mohammad Sarker submitted a charge sheet to the court against Monirul on April 17, 2011. After hearing the witnesses, the court pronounced the verdict.
