Filling stations sell spurious fuel

Adulterated fuel is being sold at some filling stations and local markets in the six upazilas of Jhenidah district.
A section of dishonest and greedy traders are selling substandard diesel, patrol and octane rampantly that could damage automobile engines, alleged the local drivers.
Drivers and owners of vehicles alleged that a section of dealers and traders was doing brisk business by selling petrol mixed with diesel and kerosene.
According to deputy commissioner (DC) office sources, on Monday, Executive Magistrate of Jhenidah Bashir Ahmed fined Srijony Filling Station Tk 80,000 under Consumer Rights Act-2009 (48) for selling substandard fuel and cheating customers on quantity.
On 9 August, a mobile court, led by the executive magistrate, fined Tamim Filling Station, Taj Filling Station,  and Jhenidah Filling Station Tk 10,000 each for the same reason.
Deputy Director of Rapid Action Battlalion-6 major Ashraf Uddin said: “We
had information that the owners of these filling stations had been engaged in doing illegal business for a long time.”  President of Jhenidah Bus-Minibus Owners Association Rokunuzzaman Ranu said the vehicle owners are being deprived of exact quantity of fuel. He strongly demanded clean and exact quantity of fuel for the vehicles.  He urged the authorities concerned to investigate the matter and take immediate steps against the dishonest traders.
Bashir Ahmed admitting the allegation said filling stations are selling adulterated fuel to the consumers.
Secretary of district Awami League and mayor of Jhenidah pourashabha Saidul Karim Mintu said mobile court must punish the dishonest owners and the local administration and law enforcing agencies should take stringent measures to stop the malpractice.
