JU, BAU classes resume today
The regular classes and examinations of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will resume today after 14 day-long Eid vacation.
JU Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique confirmed news over phone call yesterday.
Through the class, exams and administrative activities were remain closed, the dormitories were opened during the vacation. Most of the students return campus after enjoining the Eid holidays with their family and relatives. Earlier on August 27, the university went on 14 days Eid vacation. Classes and other academic activities at Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh resume today after holidays.
Earlier, the resident halls were reopened on September 8.
RU gets new treasurer
Prof AKM Mostafizur Rahman Al-Arif, a retired teacher of Marketing Department, has been appointed as the treasurer of the Rajshahi University (RU).
RU Public Relations office sources said, a gazette notification signed by Sahnaz Samad, Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Education yesterday afternoon, said the president Abdul Hamid and also chancellor of the university, gave his consent to appoint Prof Mostafizur as new treasurer of RU for the next four years according to the University Act-1973, section 14 (1).
Orientation Programme held at IUB
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized orientation programme for newly admitted undergraduate students yesterday at the university’s own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka, says a press release.
Welcoming the newly enrolled students and the parents, Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice-chancellor, IUB thanked students for choosing IUB towards crafting their lives by coping with new challenges. He called upon the freshers’ to capitalise ‘IUB Life’ in order to coming out as the best professionals in respective fields along with becoming global citizens for humanity. Prof Milan Pagon, Pro Vice Chancellor, IUB, Prof Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Dean, School of Business; Prof Shahriar Khan, Dean, School of Engineering and Computer Science; Dr Abdul Khaleque, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management; Dr Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; and Prof Rita Yusuf, Dean, School of Life Sciences also welcomed the students and spoke in the programme.
The event was conducted by Ms Lima Choudhury, Deputy Director, Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid Office of IUB.
Reading festivals for minor children held
NILPHAMARI: Reading festivals were held simultaneously at Sadar, Dimla and Kishoreganj upazilas here on Friday to enhance reading abilities of minor primary school children.
RDRS Bangladesh organised the festivals under Reading Enhancement for Advancing Development Activity (READ) project with assistance of the USAID and Save the Children.
The festivals were arranged on the occasion of observance of the International Literacy Day- 2017, a press release said.
A total of 309 primary school students from class one to class three of 21 government primary schools participated in the festivals held at District Government Public Library in Nilphamari, Sramo Kallyan Public Library in Kishoreganj upazila and Samajkallyan Sangstha Library in Dimla upazila. Each of the participating 309 students took part in three reading related games moderated by 21 assistant teachers and 81 winner students will be awarded. Librarian of District Government Public Library Saiful Islam, Dimla Upazila Education Officer Rabiul Islam, Technical Officers of READ project Azharul Islam, Mahbubur Rahman, Jahurul Haque and Saidul Islam attended the festivals.
While addressing the occasions, Technical Officer Azharul Islam said the festivals were arranged to address the gap in early grade learning, especially literacy learning.
He stressed on enhancing reading skills of minor children for ensuring a strong foundation at the beginning of their school life to reduce repeating grades or dropouts at primary level. Librarian Saiful Islam said the festivals would improve the children's reading skills at primary level schooling and increase their acquaintance with supplementary reading materials.
