Increasing violence against children protested

A joint programme organised by Shishu Nirjatan Protirodh Mancha (SNPM) was held on the compound of the deputy commissioner's office on Monday for protesting and preventing torture against children.
The programmes included protest rally, drama, human chain, debate and handing over a memorandum to the local administration.
Participants in the programme demanded speedy trial, separate tribunal, mobile court operation and awareness building to prevent torture against children.
Shishu Nirjatan Protirodh Mancha (SNPM) comprising Girl Guides Association, Photography and Film Society, Political Fellow Alumni Association, monthly Lal-Sabuj, Debating Society, Anuvutir Ghuri, Team Innovation, Blood Donors Club, Women Business Forum, Youth Ending Hunger, organised the programme.
Deputy commissioner of Barisal D Gazi Md Saifuzzaman attended the programme at his office, receiving the memorandum, said Barisal would be turned into a child-oppression-free district.
He called upon all to be active and united in protesting torture against children and coming forward to prevent that.
Dipu Shamsur Rahman, coordinator of the SNPM, said in the memorandum they raised six point demands including speedy trial, separate tribunal, operating mobile court, one stop service for the victims, inclusion of related matters in educational curriculum, awareness building for preventing child oppression and torture.
BSS adds from RAJSHAHI: Teachers and students in Rajshahi University (RU) campus staged a human-chain programme protesting against the gradually escalating repression against children.
Shishu Niketan, a child rights youth group belongs to the Department of Sociology of
RU, organised the human chain besides the RU Parish Road on Monday demanding exemplary punishment to those who are involved in the barbaric crimes.
Some teachers of the department including Chairman Prof Dr Wardatul Akmam, Prof Dr Sultana Mustafa Khanum and Dr Md Faizar Rahman were present at the human chain programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Sultana Mustafa Khanum said, "I am disheartened and angry over this kind of barbaric murder of Rajan and Rakib. We have reached such a stage where Rajan was beaten to death before the eyes of everyone while the people were laughing but not protesting."
She said, "Low-income family's child Rajan was killed on a trivial accusation".
