At least three persons were killed in separate incidents in Gazipur on Monday. A van driver was hacked to death by some miscreants in Palerpara area of Gazipur city on Monday night. The victim was identified as Roton Majhi, 55, son of Rostom Majhi of Sultani village under Mehendiganj upazila in Barisal.
Mahfuzr Rahman, son of Roton Majhi, said that his father was a witness in a case with Joydebpur police station filed by his neighbour against one Jahangir of the same area following a trifling matter. He said Jahangir has been threatening his father since that time and adding that they suspected that followers of Jahangir might be involved in the killing.
Mohammed Rohul Amin, sub-inspector of Joydebpur police station, said Roton Majhi was killed while returning home from Telipara area of the city at around 9.30 pm on Monday. A group of miscreants suddenly attacked and chopped him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
On the other hand, a trader of garment’s wastage was killed by some unidentified miscreants in Fakir Market area of Tongi BSCIC in Gazipur on Monday night. He was identified as Raju Dewan, 27, son of late Mohiuddin Dewan of the area.
Sub-inspector of Tongi model police station Bashar said Raju was hacked to death with sharp weapons by some unidentified miscreants in Fakir Market area of
Tongi BSCIC industrial Zone while he was returning his residence at around 11.30 pm on Monday.
In another incident, police recovered a body of an unidentified youth, 25, from a Jungle of Kalampur area in Gazipur yesterday morning. Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Officer in charge of Kaliakoir police station Omer Faruk said, locals found the body lying in a jungle near Dhaka-Rajshahi rail line in Kalampur area of Kaliakoir upazila. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
