Batting reshuffle ‘costs dearly’

Sports Reporter

Bangladesh meekly surrendered to Australia in the series-deciding match of the two-match Test series in Chittagong following their historic first Test victory against the top-flight Test side.

After the loss of the match, the series ended 1-1, the result which was happened in England and Sri Lanka series. The Tigers clawed back in the fray in these series after losing the opener.

But this time they made a possibility to win the series by winning the first Test. However, they could not maintain it in port city. The batting frailty in top-order along with sloppy fielding cost heavy on them.  It is deemed that the batting reshuffle of the home side was the main reason of their batting collapse in the Chittagong Test.

It was learnt that the team management wanted Mushfiqur Rahim to bat at number four position but he denies playing at this position. Later the management promoted Nasir Hossain to the position and Mominul Haque was sent to No. 8. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon yesterday acknowledged the matter, stating that they promoted Nasir Hossain to No. 4 position after  Mushfiq denies to bat at that position.

“We had top-order batsmen who are all left-handers. So, we wanted to bring a right handed batsman. Mushfiq was our consistent performer so we, the team management, wanted to bat him at that position,” said Nazmul Hassan. Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim at his post match briefing blames the team management for their batting reshuffling that paid them costly with the shocking drubbing in last Test to Australia.

“If Mushfiq blames the team management, it will then be wrong for him because the team management takes their decision in the presence of him.”
