Taking it a realistic that Bangladesh are far behind to their group opponents, a 32-member national Under-16 women football team including 23 players left Dhaka for Thailand yesterday and reached Bangkok at 11am to participate in the final round of the AFC age group competition.
The tournament will be held in Chonburi, Thailand from September 10 to 23 when the competition also serves as the qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Uruguay 2018, with the top three ranked teams from this AFC U-16 Women’s Championship will represent Asia.
However, in a press conference on Thursday ahead to the competition, team’s head coach Golam Rabbani Choton, technical and the strategic director Paul Smally stated all about their optimistic and the preparation for the competition.
Kazi Salahuddin, president of the Bangladesh Football Federation, also shortly briefed the girls when he only trying to encourage the players urging them to try their best to prove that they can play football.
“You are going to compete with the World Cup champions, it is very tough tournament and it is as a stepping stone to make a name on the global stage. My request, keeping the discipline and sincerity you will try to prove that you can play football.”
Bangladesh, who stormed into the final round after winning all their group matches at home ground last year, have been drawn in a tough group along with the reigning World and Asian Champions DPR Korea, AFC Under-16 runners up of the 2015 Japan and one of Asian women’s football heavyweights Australia.
