Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam has urged people not to pay any middlemen for employment in Malaysia since no final decision has yet been taken with regard to sending workers to that country. Speaking to journalists after a meeting with a Malaysian government delegation at the expatriate welfare ministry, the newly-appointed minister said the process of sending people to Malaysia was discussed in the meeting, but no final decision was made. Led by Mustafa bin Ibrahim, Director General of the Immigration Department, the four-member Malaysian delegation comprised officials from its home and foreign ministries.
The Malaysian delegation will be in the capital till August 17 to hold talks with officials concerned. But, no final decision will be taken with this team, said sources. However, a final decision and agreement in this regard will be signed with the Malaysian Human Resources Ministry soon, they said.
After remaining suspended for a long time, manpower export to Malaysia resumed in 2013 on a government to government (G2G) basis. But the effort did not see much success as only 8,000 workers were recruited by Malaysia to work in their plantation sector.
Now, it has been decided by both Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur to send people to Malaysia also on business to business (B2B) basis, which means private recruitment agencies will now be involved.
Minister Islam said that people who got registered earlier with the government will be sent to Malaysia. Those who become registered anew will also get the opportunity to go for work, he added.
