Home Minister Assaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said actions will be taken under the country’s existing laws against those who hurts any religious belief through their writing in blogs or other media, reports UNB. “Each person will follow his own religion. We will take action under the existing law if anyone hurts religious sentiments by writing any article on blogs and social media,” the minister said. “It is absolutely unacceptable that someone makes derogatory remarks about anyone’s religion,” the minister also said. The law enforcers have got enough clues and evidence to arrest the killers of ‘blogger’ Niladri Chaterjee alias Niloy, he said.
“We’ll arrest the killers after scrutinising the evidence,”
he told reporters after inaugurating Dhaka Area office of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in the city’s Gendaria area. The Home Minister said they do not want to do anything on assumption. “If we do so, the real killers might get the scope to run away or look for opportunity to escape.” He said all the elements of the evidence will be scrutinised and then all-out efforts will be given to arrest the killers. Blogger Niloy, who was residing at a rented flat on the 4th floor of a multi-storey building at Goran in the city, was hacked to death inside his flat on Friday. He was the fourth Bangladeshi blogger hacked to death so far this year. Three other bloggers were targeted in similar killings in the country since February this year - Avijit Roy, Washiqur Rahman and Ananta Bijoy Das. Addressing a discussion meeting after inaugurating the Dhaka Area office of DNC, the Home Minister said the government has taken various initiatives to strengthen the DNC.
As part of its initiatives, members of the department will be equipped with firearms after providing those firearms trainings. Initially, limited firearms will be distributed, he added. Local MP Kazi Firoz Rashid, Additional Secretary (Political) of Home Minister Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Momin and Deputy Commissioner (Wari Division) of DMP Sayed Nurul took part in the discussion meeting chaired by DNC director general Bazlur Rahman.
