Bangladesh heading to development of super highway: Says Amu

UNB

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Wednesday said Bangladesh is moving towards the development of super highway under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports UNB.

The Minister said the government is committed to creating a good enabling environment for industries to enhance our trade performances and to make them very competitive in global markets.

Amu came up with the remarks as key note speaker at the seminar on “How Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) leads to achieving SDG-9 in the developing countries like Bangladesh” in Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, said a press release.

He also said the government has already taken up 7th Fifth Year Plan with the target of increasing employment by 20 per cent in the manufacturing sector and its contribution to GDP to 21 per cent by the year 2020. Industrial Policy 2016 has a very intimate relation with SDG 9.

Amu said the aim of National Industrial Policy (NIP)-2016 is to transform the country into an industrially developed and middle-income level one by 2021 through implementing short, medium and long-term industrialisation plans across the country.

He said new industrial policy has been designed in the context of global economic meltdown, socio-economic realities and past experience reflecting the Vision-2021 and vision 2041 of the incumbent government.

He said United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) worked with us to establish and improve our national quality infrastructure, sectoral quality infrastructure and skills development in textile and garments sector.

The Minister mentioned that the private sector organisations like, BGMEA, BKMEA, BTA, BFFEA, and UNIDO have made tremendous improvement in the field of quality standards as well as export.

He also said UNIDO is currently implementing two important programmes named BQSP and BEST. These two programs have a significant contribution to develop our Fisheries, Garments and Textile sectors to build quality infrastructure in the country. Now our accreditation certificates, testing lab certificates are globally accepted.
