The cabinet committee on purchase has approved a proposal of food ministry to import two lakh tonnes of wheat from Russia under a government-to-government (G to G) arrangement to meet the country’s food demand.
The approval was given at the meeting of the purchase committee held at the cabinet division with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair yesterday.
It will be needed to pay of Tk 418.32 crore for purchasing the wheat, Additional Secretary of Cabinet Division Mustafizur Rahman told the reporters after the meeting of the committee.
“The proposal of importing the two lakh tonnes of wheat received approval from the cabinet committee on economic affairs before getting approval from the purchase committee,” he said.
He informed that there is an agreement between Bangladesh and Russia to import wheat under G to G arrangement.
