Bangladesh captain Mushfqiur Rahim lashed out the batsmen, citing that they have the lack of maturity to deal with the critical situation. He addressed some of the batsmen’s technical problem after their seven-wicket defeat to Australia in the second Test, which forced them to draw the two-Test series 1-1 eventually.

Coming off with a confidence-booster 20-run victory against Australia in Dhaka, this was the performance that raised the question of Bangladesh’s ability to beat quality opposition in the longer version format at regular basis.

“When any critical situation arrives we get used to get a bad session so much so that it becomes tough to get turnaround for us. So definitely there is problem of maturity,” Mushfiqur said.

“Normally there are some technical problems also. When you have technical problem, you will be mentally down. Then you will get no confidence in your defense and you will pick up another way to score. There are many who think we are technically sound, we may be, but there are rooms to improve in technical aspect.”

One of the main problems of Bangladesh is that they didn’t know how to stay in the crease in a difficult pitch, a thing that David Warner did.

The Bangladesh skipper addressed the problem of wicket of domestic wicket, saying that they didn’t get that sort of wicket when they play the NCL or BCL in their country.

“Warner is an aggressive batsman but he batted beautifully in the tough wicket. He valued his wicket and showed us how to bat in this condition. But we simply couldn’t do that. Actually we rarely fall in such sort of condition. And in the domestic match, we didn’t get that sort of wicket what we got in our Test matches.”

Bangladesh however were 50 runs short in their first innings and according to Mushfiqur it made the main difference.

“If we could score 350 plus or 400 in our first innings what was possible, we could have in advantageous position. There is chance of coming back again but we couldn’t show the necessary grit in the second innings. There lead was just 72, it’s bigger considering the condition but if we could give them a target of 200, the match could have been different. Our batting was our weakest link in the whole series,” said the captain.

Nathan Lyon however was the killer with a match figure of 13-154. Mushfiqur Rahim and his side couldn’t deal with the off-spinner who is in the form of his life.

“Lyon was dangerous and he exploited it better than us. There are some dismissals of us which were unfortunate. But over all we have applied us well which couldn’t do.”

Last but not the least, Bangladesh’s batting order raised a curious question of what the team management was up to. In their second innings Bangladesh reshuffled the batting order in such way that it looked nasty.
