The Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police yesterday arrested two human traffickers and rescued six victims including six Myanmar nationals
from Garibullah Shah area in the city. The human traffickers were identified as Mahmudul Hasan (46), resident of Cox’s Bazar district and Abul Kalam (44), resident of Satkania upazila in Chittagong.
The rescued Myanmar nationals were identified as Abdul Hafez (28), Syedul Amin (25), Nurul Haque (25) and Md Jabed (25).
The rescued Bangladeshi nationals were Md Ershad (28), resident of Lohagara upazila in Chittagong and Md Ayyub (26), resident of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar. Later, two passports and other documents were recovered from their possession. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the DB police conducted the raid and arrested the human traffickers. Mahmudul Hasan and Abul Kalam, the human traffickers promised to send the victims to Saudi Arabia in exchange for Tk 5 lakh each. The human traffickers assembled the victims at Garibullah Shah area, said the police.
Two separate cases were lodged against the human traffickers and the Myanmar nationals for human trafficking and intruding into Bangladesh territory.
