Gold bars weighing around 3.8 kg were seized from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in separate incidents on Thursday, reports UNB.
Sources at the airport said Shakhwat Hossain, 39, a passenger of Thai Airways, landed at the airport at around 12:20pm. He came to Dhaka from Malaysia via Bangkok.
Based on secret information, a preventive team of Dhaka Customs House challenged Shakhwat when he was about to leave the green channel of the airport. Searching his luggage, customs officials recovered the gold consignment, said Saidul, Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Customs House.
In another incident, officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) challenged Jabin Khan, a female passenger of Bangladesh Biman Airlines from Malaysia, when was trying to leave green channel of the airport on Thursday morning. The CIID officials recovered four gold bars weighing around 400 grams searching her shoes, said a official of the CIID.
Besides, the CIID officials also recovered four more bars weighing around 400 grams from Abdul Khaleque, another passenger of the same flight, when he was trying to cross green channel, the CIID officer said preferring anonymity.
