KHULNA: A woman yesterday filed a case against 13 people, including 11 cops, for allegedly gouged two eyes of a trader in the city, reports BSS.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahedul Islam took cognizance of the case and fixed September 17 for passing an order on the issue.
Renu Begum, mother of trader Shahajalal of city's Khalishpur area, filed the case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court (CMM) against 13 people, including Nasim Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khalishpur police station and 10 other policemen of the police station.
Plaintiff's lawyer advocate Md Mominul Islam told BSS that OC Nasim Khan called Shahajalal to Khalishpur police station after taking bribe from Suma Akter and Russel on the night of July 18 this year.
Demanding Taka 1.5 lakh from the victim, the OC and other cops threatened him that if he did not pay the money, they would file case against him.
As he failed to meet their demand, the cops took him away of the police station and gouged his two eyes, the lawyer said, adding that cops admitted him to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
Shahajalal was later shifted two Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment. He is now undergoing treatment at DMCH.
Contacted, OC Nasim Khan claimed that Shahajalal was arrested in an extortion case filed by a woman of Khalishpur area.
Quoting the case, he said Shahajalal and his accomplices snatched ornaments and cash from the woman at the midnight of July 18.
Locals, on her shouting, rushed to the spot and beat him up indiscriminately, the OC added. On information, police rushed the spot and recovered Shahajalal from the mob.
