2 cousins killed in road crash
Two cousins were killed in a road accident in the capital’s Basabo area in the small hours of yesterday.
The accident occurred in front of Buddhist Monastery at Basabo around 12.30am yesterday when a city corporation vehicle rammed a motorbike with Rimon, 25, and his cousin Sharin, 22, on board, said officer-in-charge Kuddus Fakir of Sabujbagh Police Station. The injured were rushed to emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the attending doctors declared them dead, he added.

President goes to Astana Sept 9
President M Abdul Hamid will lead Bangladesh delegation to ‘The First Summit of the OIC on Science & Technology’ to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan September 10-11. A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the president and his entourage will leave Hazrat Shahjalal (R) Airport for OIC Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan at 2:45 pm on Saturday, president's deputy press secretary M Abul Kalam Azad said on Wednesday.
The delegation will be received by Ambassador of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan and concurrently accredited to Kazakhstan Mosud Mannan at Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport on the day, he added.

Youth stabbed to death
A young man was stabbed to death allegedly by his rival at Dighirpar area of Boxnagar union of the Nawabganj on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Afzal Hossain Babu, 25, son of Md Mazid of the upazila.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Nawabganj Police Station Ansari Jinnat Ali said Afzal had a long standing dispute with Mizan, son of Minhaz Uddin of the same area. Following the previous enmity, Mizan attacked Afzal on Wednesday night with sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured. Hearing screaming of Afzal, locals rushed there to rescue him while Mizan managed to flee the scene.

Rajshahi-C’nawabganj rail link restored
Rail communication between Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj was restored after three hours of disruption following derailment of a compartment of a passenger train in Rajshahi Railway Station on Thursday.
Railway officials said wheels of a compartment of the Khulna-bound ‘Mohananda Express’ from Chapainawabganj veered off the track around 8am, halting rail communication on the route. No causalities were reported. Rail link restored at 11:00 am after the derailed compartment was salvaged, said Ziaul Haque, superintendent of Rajshahi Railway Station.

Seminar on Bangladesh held
A seminar on ‘Branding Bangladesh: NRB and UN Peace Keeping’ was held at the British parliament in London on Wednesday marking World Conference 2017.
M A Mannan MP, State Minister of Finance and Planning, Bangladesh attended the seminar as chief guest, according to a message received in Dhaka early Thursday.
With Centre for NRB chairperson M S Shekil Chowdhury in the chair, the seminar was also addressed by British parliament member Anne Main, Shadow ministers Dawn Butler, Rushanara Ali, Rupa Huq, Jim Fitzpatrick, Seema Malhotra, Pola Manzila Uddin.
