Cost free vaccine for cattle in flood-hit Rajshahi villages

RAJSHAHI: More than 2,000 cattle will be vaccinated free of cost to protect those from foot and mouth diseases in around seven flood-affected villages in Manda of the district, reports BSS.

Greater Rajshahi Association in Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh and Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) jointly took the initiative with the main thrust of protecting the domestic animals from any epidemic of the diseases.

More than five experts and around 20 vaccinators will work for the purpose at five points, including Ramnagar, Joth Bazer, Norodanga and Shamuk khol, till

Friday.

Taking part in opening discussion of the three-day vaccination campaign in Joth Bazer area on Wednesday, veterinary scientists and researchers mentioned that the post-flood time is very dangerous to the cattle as they might be affected by diseases on foot and mouth. They urged the service providers to reach the livestock related necessary services to the grassroots farmers so that they can protect their domestic cattle from the diseases.

Prof Shubas Chandra Das from Department of Poultry Science in BAU, BLS President Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder and its General Secretary Dr Hemayetul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Nuruzzaman, Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Anisur Rahman and Lecturer of Gonosashtha University Dr Riazul Islam spoke on the occasion.

Prof Shubas Chandra Das stressed the need for uplifting the livestock sector for food security, self-employment and poverty reduction.

He also called upon all concerned to come forward for flourishing the animal resources sector.
