Despite a day-long strike enforced by Nagarik Samaj demanding removal of Rajshahi Education Board chairman Prof Abul Hayat, classes and examinations in all the city and district level educational institutions were held as usual.
No programme of the strikers was visible anywhere in the city or other places during the strike. Rajshahi Nagarik Samaj enforced the strike of teachers and employees in protest against police action on teachers at Laxmipur area of the city on Monday.
Sources said academic activities at all the educational institutions including Rajshahi College, New Degree College, Barendra College, Ideal School and College, Rajshahi Education Board Model School and College, Collegiate School, PN Girls High School, Seroil Government High School, Laboratory High School, Lokenath High School and all other schools and colleges.
All the educational institutions remained open with normal presence of students. All the examinations and tutorial classes were also held according to schedules.
However, Convener of Nagarik Samaj Principal Shafiqur Rahman Badsha informed The Independent that strikes were observed in the city and district schools and colleges except some government educational institutions.
It is learnt, after joining of Professor Abul Hayat as chairman of Rajshahi Education Board in March, leaders and activists of Jatiya Shiskhak-Karmachari Front launched a movement demanding his removal on charges of his involvement in alleged irregularities and corruption.
Professor Abul Hayat as the chairman of Rajshahi Education Board, however, always refuted the allegations.
