A deal was signed yesterday between the government and Bangladesh TechnoSity Limited, a consortium of a local and three foreign companies, for much waited Hi-tech park of Kaliakoir under Gazipur district.
According to the deal, the consortium will invest around Tk 200 crore ($25.8 million) in the project.
TechnoSity is a joint venture between local Fiber@Home limited and three Malaysian companies IRIS Corporation Berhad joint venture, MSC Technology Center and Alpha Technologies Limited, will construct block no. 3 of the five blocks of the 232-acre park.
Under this consortium Fiber@Home have 76 per cent share while three other companies have rest of the 24 per cent jointly, informed the TechnoSity in a ceremony organised at Westin Hotel in the city yesterday.
Block no 3 has a 40 acre are where they will build infrastructures and invites companies to establish their factories in there.
At the agreement signing event, officials of TechnoSity said big multinational companies are keen to invest in their block.
According to the contract agreement TechnoSity will operate this bloc for 40 years and it may also extend for another 20 years.
TechnoSity will share 12 per cent of the building space fair with the government and 21 percent from land rants and 5 per cent from utility charges and another 6 per cent for other earnings of the consortium.
Investors informed they have estimated $25.8 million for their initial investment which also may increase with the demand basis.
Law Minister Anisul Huq was present as chief guest when the contract agreement was signed between Hosne Ara Begume managing director of Hi-tech Park Authority, and Moynul Haque Siddiqui, chairman of TechnoSity Limited.
The government is hopeful of creating 60,000 new jobs in this park in ten years.
“We hope the hi-tech park will change the economy of the country,” Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for ICT, said at the signing ceremony.
Hi-tech park will be valued as the silicon valley of Bangladesh, Palak also added.
The project is as part of the government’s efforts to move the country toward a digital economy.
In the programme, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Communication Technology ministry Imran Ahamed, Principal Secretary of Prime Minister’s Office Md Abul Kalam Azad, Ambassador of Malaysia Norlin Othman also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier in June, the government also signed a deal with another consortium Summit Technopolis, a joint venture between local Summit Group and India’s Infinity, will construct and develop block No 2 and 5, which span over 65 acres and 29 acres of land respectively, on a design, finance, own, operate and transfer basis.
