MP Rana, 13 others indicted in murder case

A Tangail court yesterday framed charges against 14 people, including Awami League lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case, reports UNB from Tangail.
Abul Mansur Ahmed, judge of Tangail Additional Metropolitan and Session Court-1, framed charges after a long hearing from both the sides.
Earlier, the court deferred the charge framing eight times as MP Rana, now in Kashimpur jail, didnt appear before the court on health grounds.
On August 23, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) directed the authorities concerned to ensure the appearance of Amanur Rahman Khan Rana at the lower court during the hearing on the murder case. On April 13, an HC bench granted bail to MP Rana in the case.
However on April 18, a Chamber Justice of the SC stayed the High Court order till May 8.
Faruk Ahmed, a senior AL leader and a freedom fighter, was shot dead in the district town of Tangail on January 18, 2013.
When Rana appeared before Tangail Additional District and Sessions Judge Court ending his 22-month fugitive run on September 18 last, the court sent him to jail.
In February 2016, detectives pressed charges against 14 people, including the ruling party MP and his three brothers, in the Faruk murder case.
