New DU VC takes charge

Professor Dr M Akhtaruzzaman officially took over the charge as the new vice-chancellor (VC) of the Dhaka University yesterday, said a university release, reports BSS.

Earlier, he had been a pro-vice chancellor (pro-VC) of the Dhaka University since June 23 in 2016. Dr M Akhtaruzzaman, a professor of the Islamic History and Culture, was elected as a 'dean' of the arts faculty in 2014.

President Abdul Hamid, also a chancellor of the Dhaka University, recently appointed him as the DU VC temporarily as per the section 11(2) of the Dhaka University order in 1973.
