UNIDO support sought to ensure export competitiveness

Foreign Minister (FM) Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has sought more support from United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for the enhancement of Bangladeshs industrial productivity, with quality improvements to ensure export competitiveness in different sectors.
He sought this during a meeting with the visiting Director General of the UNIDO Li Yong at his office yesterday.
Referring to various incentives offered to the investors in the 100 Special Economic Zones and the Industrial and Technology Parks in the making in the country, the foreign minister stressed on greater engagement by UNIDO, particularly in finding the right technology to achieve required level of sustainable industrial development in Bangladesh in line with Vision 2021.
He also highlighted the progress and development that were taking place in Bangladeshs socio-economic sectors under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Proposal for Bangladeshs inclusion in the UNIDOs Partnership Country Programme (PCP) from the Asia-Pacific region was also discussed during the meeting.
He appreciated UNIDOs role in the sustainable industrial development of its member states, particularly for the LDCs.
UNIDO Director General stated that UNIDO would continue to provide required support to Bangladesh in the achievement of sustainable industrial development and inclusive growth.
He emphasised that to be included in the PCP country list, strong government commitment engaging all line ministries having direct linkages to industrialisation would be important.
He also underscored the need for support to develop the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh.
