Two raped in separate incidents

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Patuakhali

Two persons, one of them a Class X student, have been raped in two separate incidents in Adarbariya and Kanakdia unions of the district. A 21-year-old girl was gang-raped in the Millghar area of Adabariya union under Bauphal upazila around 7:30am on the day of Eid. One person has been arrested in this connection. Police sent the victim to the Patuakhali Medical College Hospital for medical examination.

The victim told reporters that her mother was undergoing treatment at the Patuakhali Medical College Hospital. On the day of the incident, she was travelling to Goalkhali village of Dashmina upazila from the hospital on a hired motorcycle. When she was near the house of Sanu Mridha at Milghar in Bauphal upazila around 7:30am, 4 miscreants stopped the motorcycle and threatened to kill the driver. The goons then gagged the girl and took her to a dilapidated house to rape her.

Hearing her screams, some locals rushed to the spot and detained Kabir Sharif, 27, and informed the police. The three others involved in the incident have been identified as Mizan Sardar, 26, Siddique, 22, and Zafar Gazi, 28.

In another incident, a Class X student was allegedly raped and tortured by Balaram Pal, son of Bilas Pal, in Kanakdia village of Kanakdia Union last Friday. Police sent the girl to the Patuakhali Medical College Hospital for medical tests.

Azam Khan Faruqi, OC of Bauphal police, said a case had initially been lodged against five persons and one of them have been nabbed. The village arbitration committee later negotiated with both the parties involved. The accused Balaram Pal has married the victim and thus no complaint has been lodged, he added.
