Police recovered the throat-slit body of a woman near her house in Dhosh area of Char Baliatoli village in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Hanufa Begum, 45, wife of fisherman Alam Molla, an inhabitant of Baliatoli village in the upazila. Police sent the body to Patuakhali morgue for autopsy.
Police and local sources said on Sunday night, Hanufa Begum was sleeping in her own house with her daughter Mitu, 12, step son Sohag Molla, 25 and Sohag’s wife Shukhi, 22.
Hanufa's husband, Alam Mollah was not at home at that time. On Sunday midnight when Hanufa went out of the house, criminals who were waiting there, cut her throat with sharp weapon and left her body near the house.
On information, Patuakhali additional police superintendent Mahfuzur Rahman and officer-in-charge of Kalapara police station GM Shahnawaz visited the
spot. Hanufa's daughter-in-law Shukhi Begum was taken to the police station for interrogation.
Mahfuzur Rahman told The Independent that police initially suspect that the victim was hit with a piece of wood at first.
When she became unconscious the criminals hacked her.
A murder case was filed against unidentified people with Kalapara police station in this connection.
