DNCC driver hacked dead
A Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) driver was hacked to death and his brother-in-law injured in an attack in the capital’s Hazaribagh area on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Arun, 40, while the injured is Liton, 25. Police said a group of people, equipped with sharp weapons, swooped on Arun at the City Colony of Ganaktuli around 5:30 pm and chopped with indiscriminately. As Liton came in the rescue of Arun, the attackers also hit him.
The duo was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending doctor declared Arun dead around 7:30 pm, said officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh Police Station Md Alimuzzaman.

UNIDO DG arrives today
Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) LI Yong will arrive Dhaka today on a three-day official visit.
LI Yong is coming here at the invitation of Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu leading a four-member delegation, said a handout on Monday.
The UNIDO DG is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and have a bilateral meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu. LI Yong will also meet Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Foreign Minister AHM Mahmood Ali.

Minors found dead in Ctg
Bodies of two minors were found in a pond of Khaiakhali village in Pahartali union of Raozan upazila in the district on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Akhlima Akter, 7, and Abdur Rahman, 5, children of Mofizur Rahman of the village and students of a local primary school attending class five and three respectively. Akhlima and Abdur went missing on Friday around 7pm.
After a frantic search locals spotted their bodies floating in a nearby pond and recovered the bodies, said Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Raozan Police Station Mandhusudan Nath. However, it is yet to be known how the kids drowned in the pond.

2,000 slum families get relief
Over 2,000 flood-affected slum households received relief materials in Rajshahi city.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, distributed 10 kilograms of rice to each family in Bulanpur, Shreerampur, Panchabati, Talaimary and Shayampur areas yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, the lawmaker assured that income-generation programmes would be taken so that the flood-affected families can recoup their losses.
“We will arrange need-based rehabilitation scheme for the affected people to lessen their sufferings,” he said. Water Development Board would take necessary steps before the next monsoon to check flood in the areas, he added.

3 killed in Ctg road crash
Three people were killed and ten others injured when a passenger bus overturned at Noyakhal under Satkania upazila in Chittagong on Saturday morning.
The dead were Giasuddin, 28, an inhabitant of ward number 8 of Satkania municipality and her wife Nurnahar Akhter Nuri, 23, and Azizul Islam, hailed from Banglabazar under Mirjakhil area of the upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Dohajari (highway police) Mizanur Rahman said the accident took place when a Satkania-bound passenger bus tried to overtake another bus and overturned at around 10.30 am. The driver of the bus escaped the scene.

Mohammed Noman’s death anniversary today
The 21th death anniversary of Professor Mohammed Noman, former Vice -chancellor of Jahangirnagar University will be observed today, says a press release.
Family members of late Prof. Noman have arranged Khatme Quaran and Milad Mahfil to mark the day. Besides, food will be distributed in orphanages and among the destitute. Special Munajat will be offered at the mosque. Professor Noman Smriti foundation has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the death anniversary.
