Dhaka South City Awami League (AL) Vice-president and veteran freedom fighter Najibul Haque Sardar died of cancer at a hospital in the capital yesterday, reports BSS.
He breathed his last at the city's Sqaure Hospital around 9am today, party and family sources said.
First namaj-e-janaja of the AL leader will be held at the national mosque Baitul Mukarram tomorrow noon while his second namaj-e-janaja at Bir Sherestha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium at Kamlapur after Asr prayer today.
He will be later buried at his family graveyard at Mugda. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a condolence message expressed deep shock at his demise and recalled his role in reorganising Awami League during the post-75 period.
“The party has lost a dedicated soldier of Bangabandhu in his death," she said.
The premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
