Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed refused to give up the hopes of playing Test cricket as he aims to be a complete bowler, playing all formats of cricket simultaneously.
“I will not be a complete cricketer if I can’t play Test in my playing career. Playing Test cricket is my dream,” said Taskin yesterday when his chances to play the longer version cricket looked outright bleak.
The selectors and the team management had already showed their reluctance to give him the Test cap in order to preserve his best for the one-day international cricket. His fragile knee was the major reason behind ignoring him in the Test format.
He shot into the limelight, showing his capability to bowl with fast and aggressive way, something which a few bowlers in the country’s cricket history could do. His immense talent quickly made him the future prospect of Bangladesh cricket but even before starting the career, he had to undergo the operation table for this knee that is why the team management was keen to nurse him carefully.
Taskin however has other thing in his mind as he remained bullish about his chance of playing the Test cricket at some point of his career.
“I have Test in my mind because every player has a dream to play Test cricket. I will put my best to fulfill my dream.”
“Now my only target is to keep me fit for all formats,” he looked diehard for Test.
He has targeted the next Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) to prove his worth for the Test cricket albeit it was not sure whether the franchisees would include him the best XI.
But Taskin hoped to get a nod, “As far as I know, the BCL will be held ahead of the series against Australia and if so and if everything is in good shape, I am hopeful of playing it. I am looking to show a good performance there.”
In the longer version format, a bowler needs to bowl even 15 to 20 overs but for Taskin it would be tough since he is advised to bowl a limited overs. Excessive bowling is believed to aggravate the problem.
“I was doing my training, prescribed by BCB. My training session was going on under the Australian trainer and physio. Overall, I am in good process. I’ll be able to play in all formats of the cricket if the process is kept going in such way,” an optimistic Taskin revealed.
He has been doing regular gym work along with Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and other available players in the capital.
“Every fast bowler has more or less pain and that they have to perform through it. I am not worried much for that. I have been doing my own training. I have no major problem at present,” he added.
About his current injury status, Dhaka-born bowler said that he has no problem to bowl and run at the moment.
“I am now doing my practice in full swing. I have started both bowling and running. I was out of the team for the side strain. Now it’s okay,” informed the bowler, who played 14 one-dayers and three Twenty20 international matches after making his footstep in international stage.
