Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday said the appointment of the new vice-chancellor of Dhaka University was followed by the existing rules and regulations, reports UNB.
“There was no exception to appoint the new VC. The President appointed the VC exercising his legal power following the expiration of the incumbent one's tenure,” Nahid said while talking to journalists at the secretariat.
The tenure of the incumbent VC Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique expired on August 24.
Following this, the President appointed Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman to fill the vacancy.
“Although Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman has been appointed on temporary basis, all conditions, those are applicable for four-year appointment, have been applied for him,” Nahid said.
“Even the same conditions had been applied during the appointment of Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique,” the minister added.
On Monday, President Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, appointed Dr Akhtaruzzaman, a professor of Islamic History and Culture Department of DU, as the acting VC on certain conditions, said a notification.
