Huge rush at recreational spots in Rangpur, Rajshahi during Eid

Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims, was celebrated on Saturday with due religious solemnity, amid much festivity and sacrificing animals in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, reports BSS.

The administrations and authorities concerned ensured peaceful celebrations of Eid-ul-Azha by taking necessary steps and deploying adequate number of police, Ansar-VDP, RAB personnel and volunteers.

The Muslims of all ages offered munajats seeking divine blessings and eternal peace for the departed souls of their nearest and dearest ones and continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country, its people and Muslim Ummah.

On the occasion, key buildings were illuminated and decorated with colourful flags and banners adorned with Eid Mubarak.  Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, jails, shishu paribars, orphanages and vagrant welfare centres in the region.

Rangpur City Corporation in association with the district and police administrations arranged 221 Eid jamaats and the main Eid-ul-Azha congregation was held at the Central Collectorate Eidgah at 8:30 am.

Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, senior leaders of Awami League and other political parties and local dignitaries participated in the main congregation.   State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga offered Eid prayers at the biggest Eid congregation of the district at Habu 52 Eidgah Maidan under Gangachara upazila.

Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Police Khondker Golam Faruk and Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman offered their Eid prayers at Rangpur Police Lines School and College ground at 8am.

The major Eid congregations were held at Kamal Kachhna Baro Jam-e-Mosque, Munshipara Eidgah, Shalbon Mistripara Jam-e-Mosque, Medical College Central Jam-e-Mosque, Dhap Staff Quarter Jam-e-Mosque and Alamnagar Aftabia Eidgah ground in the city.  Hundreds of enthusiastic people of all ages have been thronging recreational and entertainment spots of Rangpur and its adjoining areas as Eid fever continues since Saturday "The cheering people are visiting recreational and entertainment places amid huge joy in festive mood overcrowding those places since the Eid day," Superintending Engineer of Rangpur City Corporation Amdad Hossain said.

The people are mostly rushing to 'Proyas' Entertainment Park, Chikley Lake, Rangpur Zoo, Surovi Uddyan, Tazhat 'Jamindar Bari', 'Vinnojagat', Fantasy Zone, Teesta Road Bridge and other recreational spots to enjoy Eid festivities.

"The authorities concerned decorated recreational and entertainment spots giving those new looks and amusement flavour to attract visitors on the Eid-ul-Azha vacations this time like in the previous years," he said.  Talking to BSS, young students Marjina, Lovely, Kohinoor, Moumita, Afzal and Shahin while visiting Rangpur Zoo, 'Proyas' Entertainment Park and Chikley Lake said they were excited to enjoy the nature and beauty at those spots.

Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu said hundreds of people of all ages are gathering at these entertainment places where traders are also selling different foods, toys and handicrafts at their temporary shops.  "Hundreds of children, parents, boys, girls, students and youths are coming to recreational and entertainment places for the third consecutive day today since the Eid-ul-Azha day to enjoy the festivity," Jhantu added. In Rajshahi, the holy Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated in the city with due fervor, joy, enthusiasm, gaiety and solemnity as elsewhere in the district.

In the morning, streams of people- young, old and children rushed to the nearest eid grounds, mosques and open places and offered their Eid prayers.

The main Eid jamaat was held at Hazrat Shah Mukhdum (R) Central Eidgah Moidan at 8am. Principal of Jameya Islamia Shahmukhdum Mufti Muhammad Shahdat Ali conducted the prayers.  Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, City Mayor Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul, former Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman and Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif offered their Eid prayers along with other dignitaries at the Central Eidgah.   The second and third largest ones were held at City Eidgah (Tikapara) and Shaheb Bazar Zero Point respectively at the same time.

Besides, some other big Eid jamaats in the city were held at Hatemkha, Stadium Ground, Shalbagan, Alif Lam Meem Bhata Eidgah, Police Line Parade Ground, Mohisbathan Eidgah math, Upashahar Eidgah Moidan, RUET campus and Rajshahi University campus.

Thousands of devotees at the end of Eid jamaats (congregations) offered special munajats (prayers) seeking divine blessings and eternal peace of departed souls particularly their near and dear ones, continued peace, progress, and prosperity of the country and as well as greater welfare of the Muslim Ummah.

After the Eid congregations, the Muslim devotees sacrificed their beloved beasts in the name of almighty Allah. Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) decorated the city's important points and road islands with National and colorful flags inscribed with "Eid Mubarak".

Meanwhile, many of the people particularly the teenagers are still celebrating the Eid festival in the city visiting the amusement spots especially the bank of the river Padma with joy and enthusiasm making the spots overcrowded.

Thousands of people, especially children, poured in and around the city's parks, historic places and other recreation centres to enjoy the Eid.

Shahid AHM Kamaruzzaman Central Park and Zoo, Zia Shishu Park, Varendra Research Museum, Vadra Park, Padma Garden and Borokuthi amusement point drew huge crowd.  Children, young boys and girls wearing colorful dresses gathered these places where small makeshift shops were set up to sell different homemade foods and toys.
