Prisoner dies in Pirojpur jail

An accused in an extortion case died in the district jail on Monday night.
The prisoner has been identified as Nurul Islam Akon, 48, hailing from Soto Soula village under Mathbaria upazila of the district.
Jailor of the district jail AG Mahmud told this correspondent that Nurul was sent to Pirojpur jail from Mathbaria judicial magistrate court on July 14 as an accused in an extortion case.
On Monday at about 10.30 pm when he fell sick, he was taken to Pirojpur sadar hospital, where duty doctor declared him dead.
Emergency doctor Dr Shirshir Ranjan said Nurul might have died of heart attack.
