BNP extends recruiting drive by 1 month

Having failed to reach its target of recruiting one crore new members, BNP yesterday extended its member collection and membership renewal drive by another month, reports UNB. Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the announcement at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.

“We couldn’t reach our member collection target in our-two month drive due natural disaster and some other issues. We’ve already achieved more than half of our target,” he said.

The BNP leader further said, “Under the circumstances, we’ve decided to extend our member collection and membership renewal drive by another month until October 1.”

On July 1, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia inaugurated the party’s two-month long drive setting a target to collect one core new members by September 1.

According to the sources at the BNP’s central office, the party has so far sold 60.56 lakh party membership forms and earned Tk over 6 crore by selling it at Tk 10 each. They said they could not carry out the drive at many parts of the country due to flood in 27 districts, inclement weather, intra-party conflicts and obstruction by police and ruling party activists.
