Greeting the country's people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday urged all to share the joy of the festival with flood-affected people and make sure no one remains unfed on the occasion, reports UNB. In a message, she said thousands of people in haor regions and 27 districts remain homeless losing their houses, crops and valuables to the flood. "So, I call upon BNP leaders and activists and the country's well-off section to extend their helping and sympathetic hands towards the disaster-affected hapless people.
We all should be careful so that no one remains unfed during the joyous day of eid," the BNP chief said. She further said, "I call upon all to take steps so that the disaster-hit people can join the eid celebrations. We'll have to share the eid joy standing in the same row."
Khaleda also voiced deep concern over the some incidents of enforced disappearance ahead of the eid. "There's has been a dangerous anarchy in the country as it seems there's no security of public life and property." Under the current atmosphere, she said it will not be possible for all to enjoy the eid properly. Khaleda will celebrate the eid with her eldest son Tarique Rahman, his family members and the family members of her late son Arafat Rahman Koko in London. She went to London on July 15 for medical treatment and has been staying in Tarique's house. Sources at London BNP said Khaleda has no scheduled programme on the eid day to exchange greetings with her party leaders and activists and Bangladeshi expatriates living there. They said Khaleda will spend time with her family members on the day and sacrifice a cow there.
