DU students start getting smart ID cards
Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Monday started distributing smart identity cards among the university students for the first time, reports UNB.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Arefin Siddique inaugurated the process of giving smart ID card to students at a function held at the Nawab Nabab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university.
The process began with handing over smart ID to some students of 2015-16 academic session of DU. Among other, DU pro VC (Education) Prof Nasreen Ahmad, Pro VC (administration) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, and Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin were present on the occasion. In his speech, DU VC Arefin Siddique said, “This initiative would help the university turn into a Digital University in the country.”
“Students urged not to give the smart ID card to another one for security concerned adding that if the ID card lost a student must inform the university authority and file a GD with nearest police station,” he added. Besides a student’s personal details the smart card has been decorated with students’ information including student’s name, register number, ID code, picture, department name and hall name. As some of the students were given smart ID, so rest of the students of session 2015-16 will collect their smart ID card from his or her respective department and hall office.
Food distributed among the poor
North South University Social Services Club (NSUSSC) distributed foods among the poor families in Kuril and Bashundhara area on Wednesday, says a press release.
The packages consisted of rice, vermicelli (shemai), soybean oil, ghee, a variety of spices and other food substances. On the occasion Asif Mahmud, president of NSUSSC said ‘Our club has always tried to lend a helping hand to those in need”. This year, we distributed 400 bags full of essentials to those families who hardly get a chance to enjoy the feasts of the sacrifices, he added. Saef Uz Zaman Rafi, Joint Secretary of NSUSSC stated, ‘This year’s ‘Joy for Eid’ has been successful due to immense contributions from everyone involved. I hope that we will divide our joy of Eid and spread them among everyone.
RU introduced a new unit for intake test
The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have introduced another new unit (cluster) for the BBA (Honors) programme under the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in the admission test. The new unit is “J” where total seats fifty including each 25 for business studies group and non-business studies group students.
Earlier, this exam was comprised under the “Unit-D” which contains with the departments of Business Administration faculty. Dr Md Rafiqul Islam, Director of IBA informed that the decision has come from a meeting of university admission committee chaired by the vice-chancellor Prof. M Abdus Sobhan recently.
All institutes of the university have been taking their admission test separately but IBA could not do this due to lack of its own computer centre here. At last, IBA launched its own computer centre last week and decides to hold the admission test with a separate unit, the director said.
