Main Eid congregation at 8am
The main congregation of Eid-ul-Azha, the 2nd largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be held at the National Eidgah at 8am on the Eid day, reports UNB.
Besides, a total of five Eid congregations will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, according to a press release sent by the Islamic Foundation.
The congregations will be held at 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am and 10:45am, it said.
Teenager found dead
Police recovered the body of a teenager boy in Naljani area under Sadar upazila in Gazipur yesterday.
The teenager identified as Jony, 17, was a resident at Bariali village of the upazila. He went missing yesterday afternoon.
Police said on information they recovered Jony's body yesterday morning from the area. Police also said he might have been hacked to death by sharp weapon.
The body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahemd Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Shahjahan Kabir joins as BRRI DG
Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir, Agricultural Scientist of the country, has joined Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur as it’s new Director General yesterday.
Dr Kabir has been serving as the Director (Administration and Common Service) of the Institute.
BRRI sources said he began his career as a Scientific Officer in Agricultural Statistics Division of this Institute in 1994.
He obtained his BSc (Hons) degree in 1987 and MSc degree in 1988 from the Rajshahi University. He did his PhD degree on Geo-Statistical Modeling from the Jahangirnagar University in 2011.
Three Nazrul Sangeet singes honoured
Swadhinata Sangbad honoured three eminent Nazrul artistes at a programme held at Kabi Sufia Kamal auditorium of National Museum in the capital recently, says a press release.
The Sangsad organised the programme marking the 41st death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
The artistes honoured with “Kazi Nazrul Islam Sammanona Purashkar-2017” are-Dr Leena Taposhi Khan, chairman of Music Department of Dhaka University; Nishat Afza Arzoo and Khilkhil Kazi.
The artistes also rendered prominent Nazrul songs marking enthralling the huge audience gathered at the venue.
A discussion was held marking the occasion.
Pistol, yaba pills seized
Police on early Thursday recovered a pistol, 142 pieces of yaba tablets, one gram of heroin from Hujripara area of Poba upazila in Rajshahi.
Officer-in-Charge of Poba Police Station Parimal Kumar Chakraborty said being tipped-off, a team of police led by inspector (investigation) Hasmat Ali conducted a drive in the area.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, a drug peddler managed to flee the scene leaving a gun, a packet of yaba tablets and heroin.
Police later seized those from the spot, he added.
